Course objectives:
The class systematically presents basic sociological paradigms and introduces students with the issues that arise in the course of the sociological study of society. It offers information that shall help students choose their own research philosophy and method tailored for their own research problems. The class also offers a review of the founding fathers' contribution to general sociological methodology, e.g. Weber's value free sociology, Durkheim's sociological reductionism and others. The core of the course is for students to practically master the tacit assumptions associated with the creation of questionnaires or interviews (semi - structured and structured.)
Requirements on student
- practical exercises are carried out directly in the field
- students practice sensitivity to silent assumptions, which are an integral part of quantitative and qualitative surveys
- an integral part of gaining adequate knowledge is the need for continuous preparation for lessons. In order for the result to be effective and, above all, to be able to apply the acquired knowledge and put it into context with other acquired knowledge, it is necessary to systematically write the assigned texts by the teacher. Methodical processing of information, their analysis, acquisition and systematization form part of the teaching, which is also based on self-study, which is controlled by the teacher.
- texts for seminars and texts for exercises the student always processes in writing in a specified form (eg essay, abstract, annotation, resume, presentation: analysis of terms, theories, concepts, etc.).
