Course objectives:
|
To make students aware of the contemporary system in Czech orthography, introduce them to the contemporary codification in orthography and its sources and help them with the application of other grammatical knowledge in the area of orthography.

Active participation in classes. Credit dictation.

Content
|
Theoretical background, types and function of Czech orthography and periods in its development.
Phenomena of the lexical orthography (i/y, consonants clusters, capital letters, foreign words, abbreviations, symbols and marks).
Phenomena of the morphological orthography.
Phenomena of the syntactic orthography (concord between predicate and subject, comma writing in simple and multiple sentences.
Word boundary.
Rules of punctuation.
Common problematical phenomena in current orthography.
