Course objectives:
|
Aim of the course is to gain of knowledge of methods and methodology of the regional history and of the concrete historical development of the Westbohemian region from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Students will concretize their knowledge by reading of primary texts and scientific literature in seminars, the emphasis will be put on the gain of orientation in sources.

Content
|
1. Regional history and its methodology (historical homeland studies, historical regional studies, regional history, regionalism)
2. Western Bohemia as a historical space (possibilities and methods of delimitation of the region, important personalities of West Bohemian historiography, basic literature and periodicals)
3. Western Bohemia from the arrival of the Slavs until the end of the princely period (Slavic settlement, the issues of Domažlice, Stará Plzeň and the castle system in the region)
4. The phenomenon of the 13th century and colonization of West Bohemia (foundation and activity of monasteries, structure of feudal property, building of royal residences, aristocratic residences, Gothic art)
5. Medieval towns (urban network and its structure - royal and serf towns, towns and villages, level of their township - markets, fortifications, city law, self-government, urban estate, urban population)
6. Hussite movement in West Bohemia (manifestations of Hussite movement in the region before 1420, liquidation of monasteries, Lord's unity, Unity of Zelená Hora, Unity of Strakonice, reverberations of Hussite movement in the Czech-Bavarian conflicts)
7. Western Bohemia in the 16th century (confessional situation and influence of the Catholic Church, the rise of the noble estate and its external manifestations, the most influential West Bohemian noble families, the Renaissance in the region)
8. Thirty Years War in West Bohemia and re-Catholicization
9. Western Bohemia in the post-White Mountain period (peak of the development of the seignorial estate, the position of the peasants, the privileged Chods, the Králováks, the serf rebellions in 1680 and 1775, Baroque art)
10. Early modern towns (dispute of the towns with the nobility and its manifestations in the region, transformation and thickening of the urban network during the early modern period, structure of the urban population)
11. Pre-March West Bohemia and the Revolution of 1848 (administrative development of the region in 1751-1850, economic development)
12. Western Bohemia in the years 1850-1918 (administrative structure of the region, main directions of economic development in the second half of the 19th century, cultural life of the region)
