Course objectives:
The course has a dual objective. Firstly, the learners are introduced to the theoretical foundations of supervision, and secondly, it brings personal experience of supervision. During the course, learners will understand the meaning and purpose of supervision, learn about its values, objectives, functions and forms, and become familiar with the code of ethics of supervision. In addition, they will gain knowledge of the supervisory negotiation process and the basic elements of supervisory contact. An important part of the course are supervision meetings led by a supervisor with supervision training. This will give the learner their own experience of supervision working with their experience of two types of practice in the same semester.
The "Introduction to Supervision" course is guided by the intent to increase students' skill in the effective use of supervision as a developmental and supportive tool for the social worker and to support students in their reflection on practice with social service providers. The focus of the course is supervision seminar sessions.
Requirements on student
A condition for credit is active participation in supervision seminar meetings, written structured records from supervision meetings and elaboration of a selected theoretical topic. The course is completed by an oral examination in the form of a professional colloquium.
