Informace o kvalifikační práci Populární geopolitika v USA - reflexe, zobrazení a mediace druhé války v Iráku prostřednictvím vybraných populárních médií
Předkládaná diplomová práce si kladla za cíl rozvinout téma populární geopolitiky na pozadí druhé války v Iráku prostřednictvím čtyřech vybraných typů populárních médií - komiksů, filmů, populární hudby a videoher - neb tyto v současnosti tvoří převážnou část výzkumného rámce populární geopolitiky, respektive "popular culture and world politics nexus."
The presented master thesis endeavoured to further unfold and advance the captivating topic of popular geopolitics in the aftermath of the 2003 Iraq War. Employing four selected types of popular media - comic books, movies, popular music and videogames - we sought to cover the increasing corpus of works exploring popular geopolitics so as to grasp it in its compelling entirety. Therefore, the abovementioned types of popular media were not chosen arbitrarily, but rather purposefully in hopes of enveloping the current research agenda of "the popular culture and world politics nexus".
Whereas the first section devoted considerable time and attention to thoroughly describing the tumultuous relationship between America - and its long-standing commitment to the Middle East - and Iraq throughout the 20th century and beyond, the second part revolved around our attempt to capture some of the emerging themes and issues connected with the 2003 Iraq War that were mediated, portrayed and securitized by the four types of popular media. Each chapter on a particular type of popular media was accompanied by a case study to better illustrate our findings and demonstrate those in a more engaging fashion.
At the very end we attempted to venture beyond the ill-conceived, and indefensible, boundaries separating "virtual" from "real" by mentioning the Islamic State as a keen user that brings (Western) popular culture artefacts to a next level.
