This diploma thesis deals with spiritual music in Bohemia, as well as with the composer Jan Dismas Zelenka and his composition Lamentationes Jeremiae Prophetae.
Chapter 1 in its first part looks at the spiritual music from the point of view of Czech musicology. It is concerned with the term barok and the division of the Czech Baroque into periods. Together with the division into periods it offers the views of two musical research workers, Jan Racek and Jiří Sehnal, as well as the latest study by Jaroslav Smolka. This chapter also deals with the religious situation in Bohemia, which creates the conditions for the musical-liturgical service in the Czech background. The last part of this chapter is an extract of the musical forms of spiritual music and the description of these forms, which gained the front position in the musical-liturgical service. It is actually Latin figurative church music, that was played in the form of masses, vespers and litany. As a part of the musical-liturgical service there are also musical forms as oratorio, sepolcro and Czech sacred song.
Chapter 2 is concerned with the musician Jan Dismas Zelenka at the Dresden Royal Court and it points out his musical career, particularly during the reign of the Saxon-Polish king August II. Silný.
