Course objectives:
|
To familiarize the students with the basics of the chemical composition of the human body, the nature of metabolism, energetic metabolism, and the production and use of the energy. Furthermore, the subject is focused on the role of amino acids and proteins in the body, on their conversion and resulting waste products. The emphasis is placed on understanding the mechanism of muscle contraction and nerve function. Primarily is the attention given on biochemical pathologies, that the orthotist - prosthetist must especially respect, i.e. ischemia, diabetes and the patient´s condition during the chemotherapy. The aim is also to explain the nature of responses to foreign material, i.e. the immune response in the inflammatory and allergic form. Students are also acquainted with the materials utilizied in orthotics - prosthetics.
