Annotation Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá historickým a kulturním pozadím hry Williama Shakespeara s názvem Richard III. a jejím hlavním protagonistou králem Richardem III.
Annotation in English This bachelor thesis deals with the cultural and historical background of William Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Richard III and with its main protagonist King Richard III (1452-1485), who has been considered to be a murderous usurper of the English throne with a disfigured appearance by the majority of general public. The objective of the thesis is to present to the reader the real Richard, whose reputation was damaged after his death to order of a new King Henry VII by so called pro-Tudor propaganda, which from the artistic point of view culminated by publishing Shakespeare's play, because this particular piece of work made the legend popular. The most important part of this thesis was the analysis of controversial issues concerning Richard III, the purpose of which was to demonstrate diametrically different opinions about his person and the distorting of the history in Shakespeare's play.
