Key learning outcomes
|
An absolvent can define the subject of sociology and its relationship to related disciplines. The absolvent is capable of describing the evolution of sociological thought, basic sociological controversies, the fields of study, and the paradigms. The absolvent is able to explain the most important general and departmental sociological terms and theories. The absolvent can name the most important sociologists and characterize their contribution to the discipline. The absolvent is skilful at characterizing basic quantitative and qualitative sociological research methods and s/he can specify their suitable using and the strengths and weaknesses. The absolvent is capable of working with a Czech and English sociological texts actively. S/he is able to read them critically and give a true picture of their strengths and weaknesses (theoretical, methodological, and analytical). S/he can present the conclusions of the critical reading orally and in writing. The absolvent can formulate own research problem, questions and hypotheses. S/he manages to come up with and to apply own suitable research design that leads to solving the research problem. Doing so, s/he can choose and apply proper methods of data collection and s/he is skilful at data analysis using proper methods and programs Excel, STATA, and Atlas.ti. The absolvent is able to present own analyses and own conclusions orally and in writing. The absolvent is capable of applying her/his sociological knowledge on the analysis of the Czech contemporary society. S/he is able to use acquired skills in applied and market research practically.

Profile of the programme
|
Sociology program provides a comprehensive university education in sociology. It has three parts: 1. Systematic sociology, its theory and history. 2. Sociological methodology and data analysis of quantitative and qualitative nature (including software applications). 3. Branch sociology, such as sociology of family, media, religion, social movements and gender. A field base is complemented by studying related fields and at least two foreign languages: English (mandatory), French, Spanish, Russian and German.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
|
The principal advantage of graduates in the labor market will be skill in collecting, processing and interpretation of data of different nature. That applied in market research, marketing, advertising, monitoring the quality of products and services and public opinion research, but also in state and local government and NGOs. Graduates can pursue a master's degree in sociology.
