Key learning outcomes
|
Graduates demonstrate an understanding of linguistic, literary theoretical and general linguistic concepts and methods, and understand contemporary standard German at all levels; they acquire basic knowledge of the development of the German language, understand the methodology of literary history and the main tendencies of contemporary linguistic and literary development. They are able to perform complex sophisticated analysis of the language of contemporary written and spoken texts, have a command of the principles of orthoepy and orthography, are able to assess the linguistic culture of the written and spoken expression, are able to analyse and interpret texts of various genres. They are able to independently find important information regarding research questions, study specialized literature, interpret and apply it to solve the chosen problems of the German language and literature, and write more extensive scientific texts. They are able to evaluate their communicative disposition and develop their communication skills, use the principles of voice production and nonverbal communication devices, collect and critically analyse information in a team, formulate arguments, and present and evaluate teamwork.

Profile of the programme
|
This study programme is designed as an academic one. It consists of blocks of theoretical courses dealing with the field of linguistics, literature and language practice. At the same time, it comprises blocks of courses focusing on exploiting theoretical background in practice and on acquiring skills that the graduate can apply in various positions, for example as a librarian, in public services and services in German and Austrian companies. The programme also includes practical training. This study programme is designed to equip the future graduate with theoretical background and skills necessary for study in a follow-up Master's study programme in a related field of study, namely Teacher training in the German language for Basic Schools and for Secondary Schools. In addition, after successfully completing this study programme, the graduate can apply for positions in various fields, such as administrative.
